questions i'm sitting with
questions i keep coming back to. no answers yet, just the thinking.
on building
- when does optimisation become procrastination? at what point is "making it better" just avoiding shipping?
- how do you build for users who don't know what they want yet? where's the line between vision and arrogance?
- is most complexity accidental or are we just bad at seeing why it's necessary?
on work
- what's the difference between ambition and anxiety dressed up as ambition?
- how do you stay hungry after you've "made it" by some definition? what replaces the chip on your shoulder?
- is founder mode sustainable or does it just burn different fuel?
on craft
- can you have taste without ego? or is conviction about quality inherently a little arrogant?
- how much of expertise is pattern matching vs actual understanding? does it matter?
- what's the right ratio of depth to breadth? when does being a generalist become an excuse?
on life
- how do you balance presence with ambition? one says "be here now," the other says "build for later."
- what do you owe the people who shaped you? how do you repay debts you didn't ask to incur?
- is contentment something you find or something you choose? can you will yourself into peace?
on faith and meaning
- how do you hold religious conviction without closing off intellectual honesty?
- what does it mean to act well in a world where you can't know all the consequences?
- where does discipline end and self-denial begin?
i don't expect to resolve most of these. but they're useful to carry.
